[He huffs a little at Riku's curt reply, waiting till his gaze is back on the TV before pulling a snarky little face, tongue out and all. Take that, back-of-Riku's-head. Bitty head. Yeah.

Still. He scoots closer as Kairi babbles on about the game, head canting slightly. This was all very familiar. It was his game, of course. He knew. It was titled Kingdom Hearts, for heaven's sake. But it didn't seem to bother him. Oh well.]

Yeah! Go whoop your butt, Riku. [Hadn't he failed there? Yeah, something like that. Or maybe he had beaten Riku? The Darkness won in the end, anyway. Sora bumped shoulders with Kairi, unintentionally or not.]

[At least he didn't say that maybe you could find an exit, Sora? Riku grins at Kairi's direction, taking tiny!Sora up to the island and approaching the smaller avatar of him, sitting on the paopu tree. "I already gave Kairi my stuff. How about a duel? C'mon, grab your sword."]

All right, here goes.

[In all honesty, Riku's not doing too badly. A couple of the tiny!Riku's tricks catch him (and he's grinning at it, he can't help it, it's so -weird- to see his fighting recreated onscreen), but Riku's holding his own pretty well!

That is, until he purposely jumps Sora off the edge of the island. As the onscreen Sora laments that the score is now 0 to 1, he grins over at Kairi.]

After all, might as well keep it true to reality, right?

[Between the shoulder-bump and the boys' comments, Kairi finally realizes she's in the middle of a fight just waiting to happen.

She laughs awkwardly. Well, if they're going to fight, then she's just going to lean over and ease the game controller out of Riku's hands. No sense in breaking things in the process.

For a moment, she considers warning them about the Captain and punishments. But no, if they really hurt each other then it'll serve them right.]</small;

[Sora is a Saint and has no idea what you are thinking about, Kairi, my dear girl. Riku is to blame. All of it. Totally his fault.

Or most of it is. Maybe Maleficent's fault. Mostly hers. But Sora could blame Riku on principal, even if it was simply in joust.]

Hey, no fair! I could've won that fight! You're cheating. [He's unawares of Kairi's notions, or thoughts, for the moment. Riku is cheating.]

[Even though Kairi's stolen the game controller right out from under his hands, Riku's still smirking.]

You can't call it cheating if that's what really happened.

[He nudges Kairi with his elbow, ignoring the rest of Sora's protests.]

C'mon, let's get past the islands. We already know this part!

[Kairi is already there. Finding the items on her own list could not have been easier.]

Heh, it doesn't look like we can yet.

[Cutsene! Oooh she remembers this conversation. It was kind of awkward. Oh well! Hey wait--

Kairi looks from Sora to Riku, grinning.]

You gave Sora a paopu?

[Don't laugh. Don't laugh. It's really kind of sweet. Don't laugh!]

[Oh gods. This conversation. His ears are burning, and just to ignore the on goings on the screen, he turns that scarlet face towards his ~~older~~ younger friend.]

I beat you at least once or twice, don't lie. [Arms folded over his chest in quite the huff.]

[Sorry, Sora, Riku's ignoring you in lieu of what Kairi's saying. Don't laugh at him Kairi, it was a joke! A joooooke.]

Oh, c'mon, Kairi, I was just messing with him!

[He may be still smirking, but that doesn't mean there's not the possibility of a slight red tinge across his face. That conversation was all well and good when he was teasing Sora about Kairi, but how does he explain that to -her-?!]

[Too late! She's laughing at both of them. This was definitely a good idea.]

Yeah sure.

[And still giggling at the pair of them, she runs game!Sora around to the other side of the island - she's not blocking the way anymore! - and there's game!Riku, naming the raft. And-...

A race to decide who'd share a paopu with her? Really? Kairi's face feels like it's glowing.]

Heh... That wasn't what that was really about... Right?

[Most awkward. Silence. Ever.]

[A-Awkward is right. Sora's face is still as red as his jumper used to be, and while he's not scowling at Riku anymore, he's certainly trying to avoid looking at the game.]

Uh. Yeah. So.. Y'know. Win the race, so I can name the raft!

[Even though when he'd tried, he'd lost out to Riku anyway. No need to mention that, right?]

[Thirding that awkward cry. Riku's not looking at the screen, and he is -definitely- not looking anywhere near Kairi or Sora. Those stakes had been perfectly fine on the islands (not that it had ever happened anyways!), but having Kairi actually -know- about it was something else entirely.]

Yeah, c'mon, Kairi, it was a joke. Right, Sora?

[His tone doesn't sound convincing at all, but look--he's even asking Sora to back him up! He's being civil! That's gotta count for something, right?]

Oh!

[That's right! She's supposed to be playing the game. What a convenient excuse not to make eye contact with either of them!

Racing Riku is much easier this way than in reality. She's not doing too badly until she gets stuck behind the break-water near the water-tower. The score: 2 to 0.

She sticks her tongue out at Riku then hands the controller over to Sora.]

Your turn.

Uhh, yeah! [Sure. Whatever, Riku. You jerk.]

Oh, hey thanks, Kairi. You made me lose again!

[He whines, no real heart in it. He couldn't be mad at her if he tried, anyway. But alas! His final turn to play! And now... There's a storm. He remembers that. The storm that stopped them from sailing away. He'd left already, and there's a slight pang as he hears his mother's voice. S'been a while since he checked in with her. Oops.

But he's back on the island again!]

Yeah.. Did you guys go out to the Island too? Cause of the storm...?

[Riku smirks at Kairi when tiny!him wins the race, glad that that bit of awkwardness cleared up quickly enough. But by the time they reach the storm and Sora's question, there's no way he's gonna get an answer from Riku.

Riku's not even thinking about the storm right now. He's a little bit surprised--he remembers that day on the islands. He remembers finishing up the raft, making sure all the provisions were properly stored, ensuring that everything would be ready for their departure the next morning... he'd been doing that while the sun was setting.

While Sora and Kairi had their talk, apparently.

And it's -strange-, really, strange to hear Kairi exclaim that the two of them should take the raft and go, that they should leave him behind. But she has to be joking... right? There's no way that she would have left him behind.

Right?

So Riku doesn't answer Sora's question--but not because he won't speak to him. This time, it's because he's reeling from surprise and confusion.]

[... It sounds so much worse, just played out on a screen like that. She hadn't meant it that way. She hadn't been kidding, but neither had she ever seriously considered leaving Riku behind.

All she had known - or was it felt? - at the time was that everything was changing, and that it had left her afraid and confused.

A glimpse of Riku's expression tells her all she needs to know, but the game's moving on and so is Sora.]

Hmm? Oh.

[She nods, and then shakes her head. Her smile's gone.]

No, not because of the storm. Well, you'll see.

[She hadn't given the raft a second thought. She had gone straight for their secret place.

She nudges Riku and tries to catch his eye.]

[Sora hadn't, to be honest, thought twice about that scene. He hadn't really thought of leaving Riku behind. That was just... Preposterous. He continues on, face screwing up in a serious sort of expression. The secret place.

He didn't even bother searching the islands. He'd gone straight there. He knew what was waiting. And it made his brow knit in the middle of his forehead.

He didn't say anything.]

[At first, Riku doesn't look at Kairi. He -can't-. Not while he's so uncertain, not while he's still trying to figure this out. He watches Sora silently, but as Sora starts for the Secret Place, he shakes his head. That was when he had gotten the Keyblade? Riku had thought for -sure- that he'd gotten it after leaving the islands. He still has no idea what to think, but they're into the Secret Place and Kairi is acting strange--

And even in spite of his uncertainty, he -does- glance her way at that one.]

What... happened?

I-...

[Gave? No. That wasn't right. She certainly hadn't meant to do it. It had been far from a pleasant experience.]

I lost my heart. And Sora caught it. He didn't know.

[And despite herself, she manages a weak smile. As unpleasant as it was, even to watch, it had all turned out alright. Well, almost.]

[Yeah. That had been when... When Kairi flew through him. He'd been so confused. What had happened to her? And he'd just caught it; just like that. He peeks a tiny glance at Riku; maybe playing this one wasn't such a good idea...

But he trudges on. ~~Because I'm a derp, pretend he already did the keyblade bit fffuuu.~~]

[Riku shakes his head again--based on what Kairi had told him when he'd first gotten here, he'd been able to make that leap. But whatever, he watches Sora as he's shoved back out of the Secret Place, onto some remnant of the islands and--]

It's the same Heartless we fought in the dream.

[Huh. Now -that's- odd.

They beat this one with about as much difficulty as they had in the first battle, and it's off to a new world, which Riku can identify as Traverse Town even before the words pop up on the screen.

Oh, look, it's Sora's ~new friends~.]

Hey!

[Distracted for a moment from Riku's mood, Kairi reaches over and starts messing the game controller.]

It's that dog! I know that dog. I followed him here.

[She succeeds only in running game!Sora around, getting him attacked by heartless, and triggering a few sequences where Donald and Goofy are looking for Leon.

Kairi pouts. Stupid game.]

[Sora's face doesn't light up like it did earlier. When he saw his friends sitting here, playing around. It softens, sure, and his grin spreads, but it's not the same. Donald and Goofy are his best friends, sure. But they're a different sort of best friend. Riku and Kairi could never be replaced.

If only Riku could have understood that. Right now, anyway. But he doesn't comment, instead continuing on with the game.]

Pluto? You followed him... here? [That was weird.]

[Speaking of weird. Sora groans. Leon just kicked his sorry ass.]

[Unfortunately, Riku doesn't notice it--he's no longer actively giving Sora the could shoulder, though! Although that might be due in part to the game.

Oh, hey, look! It's him! The scene is quick, but it's already enough to illustrate the differences between what had happened to him and what had happened to Sora. Sora had woken up in Traverse Town--a refugee town. He'd woken up in Hollow Bastion, where the only company were the Heartless. And Maleficent.

Sorry, guys, Riku doesn't have much to put in.]

Does that count as the score being 3-0 now?

[Kairi nods. It makes no more sense to her. But she's recognized the place Riku woke up too. That's--]

You woke up there?

[That's... Not good.

And then Donald and Goofy land on game!Sora's head.

Kairi can't help it; she laughs.]

[Sora makes a face at Riku; no, that did not count. And oh lawd he winces. Two full grown Disney boobs falling on his head? Yep, that'd hurt.]

Where is that? [Derp derp, Sora you know exactly where that is.]
