[His tone suggests there might be something more, but as to what it is? He isn't letting that on.]

[For a moment, you get dead silence, but then Riku will laugh--c'mon, Xanth, it's a joke! He wouldn't send you there~ Not after the truth or dare game...]

Nah, I'm kidding. How about where we were camping? I'll meet you there.

A...alright, sure. I-I'll be there in a m--minute.

[Riku's waiting just where he said he was going to be, in the woods near where they were camping. He's holding a stick in his hands, turning it over in deliberation--if he can't summon Soul Eater here, he can at least carve himself a new wooden sword until he finds a suitable replacement. Even this is better than nothing!

When Xanth arrives, he'll notice, but make no indication of it. He's being nice, see, he'll let Xanth announce his presence when he's ready!]

H-- uh, hi.

[Riku's pretty relaxed, taking a couple practice swings with the stick before letting it drop to his side.] Back at home, we used to play with wooden swords. Since we apparently can't have any sort of normal weapons here, I figure this is second best, right?

[He won't give Xanth much chance to answer though; instead he'll offer the other boy a smile that might be a little bit more on the smirking side than intended. Oh, he's got an agenda, but that doesn't mean he's gonna cut straight to the chase.] Glad you decided to come. Things seemed to get a little bit tense the last time we were all here.

Uh, s--sorry, I, uh, I-- p-probably made things a-awkward.

[Oh god Xanth you make things so easy for him. He was going to take longer to get around to it, maybe bring up a couple other things from Destiny Islands, but SINCE YOU LEFT IT WIDE OPEN THERE...

Riku chuckles, giving a half shrug.]

I don't know if I'd say you did it. I'd say it was that other guy--Jinx, right? Kinda got a little bit insistent during truth or dare, huh?

Y--Yeah. That, uh, th-that's Jinx for you, th...though...

Hmm, I don't know. [Another shrug.] Kinda seemed to me like he might have had a reason behind it.

[Have a Riku. STARING INTO YOUR SOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUULLLLLLL, Xanth.]

U-Uh, I, um, I don't know, m-maybe.

H-He does, uh, w--weird stuff... s-sometimes...

[Aww, too bad Xanth, because Riku is going to call you on that lie. He raises an eyebrow at him, an expectant look on his face.]

Huh, does he? 'Cause it seems to me he might have been dead-on about something there...

U-Uh. What, uh, what do--do you, uhm, mean?

[Oh, Riku means exactly what you think he means. And he's gonna draw it out, too. He shrugs again, the very image of nonchalance.]

You know, a couple days ago I saw Kairi--she was wearing a new necklace.

[Oh yeah. He's grinning, now. He -knows-.]

She said you gave it to her.

Y--yeah. I-I... did.

[+1 to key item XANTH'S BACKBONE ! Riku's actually a little bit surprised he had the spine to admit to it, but he'll recover from that quick enough.]

Well. I guess you'll be taking the next step soon then, won't you?

[Have a challenge, there, Xanth, with a little bit of emphasis on the word "soon."]

U-Uh, well, I, I don't, I-- this-- i-it, uh, it's not r-really, m-maybe?

[Oh, no Xanth. You've started something. Now you've got to go all the way. Riku's just going to have to give you crap about this the same way he did Sora. But he's still joking around, because if he isn't joking things are gonna turn ugly :|.]

Not really, maybe? Come on, Xanth, you've already given her a necklace.

I-I don't-- want to... m-mess things up.

[Wait--whoa. Riku did -not- anticipate this; he never in a million years thought that Xanth would actually confide anything. Besides, he's not sure if he wants to encourage him, really--Xanth has only been around Kairi for a few months. He's been with her for -years-.

Riku's first reaction is to lash out--'I can see how that might be easy,' perhaps. But no, that's no good; if he says that it'll inevitably get back to Kairi and he definitely doesn't want -that- to happen. Man. If it were Sora, it would be simple: 'Well, it's not like you haven't done that before, you blockhead!' and they would both laugh and the moment would be over.

But again, that's a no go because this definitely isn't Sora and Xanth is still waiting for an answer. So after that initial moment of surprise, Riku hesitates for only a moment. Looking to one side as he responds, his somewhat-sardonic, half-muttered response is a far cry from the merciless teasing of just a couple minutes ago.]

Well, if you don't do anything, then you certainly won't have to worry about messing anything up.

I... I g-guess.

Is... that... a-all?

[Well, this has certainly not gone the way Riku had expected. Not to say it's necessarily a -bad- thing, but it's definitely odd. He's a little bit iffy about the entire situation by this point--only one thing to do for that!]

Yeah, that's it. But if you want to do anything, you'd better do it quick.

[That's all you're gonna get from Riku, Xanth. He smirks, slings the stick over his shoulder, and starts towards the stairs--but before he's too far away he'll glance back to Xanth.]

Back on the islands, there's a legend about this thing called a paopu fruit. Maybe you should ask Kairi about it some time.

[And he's off again. Later, Xanth--we'll see who wins in this battle.]
