[At first, Riku wasn't going to say anything. But being that he is, in fact, an arrogant ~~awesome~~ brat, he can't resist. So when he speaks, you can hear the smirk in his voice.]

Hey. Nice job yesterday, guys. That was a pretty good game.

[And he's even being sincere! How about that.

Riku's a bit bruised up from his bout with Pamela; you won't be able to see the long bruise on his side from where she hit him, but the two dark stripes on his neck from her broom are readily visible, and Riku's not making any attempts to hide them at all. These are his battle scars, his badge of honor; they're something that tells the world that he is one badass kid. Or something, who even really knows.

Riku won't be taking a break though; the game might be over but he's still on the move. You'll be able to find him all over the ship today--he'll be in the forest on deck 3 first, just wandering the forest a bit, then he'll be on deck 12 looking through the luggage for anything that might be helpful in building a tree-house. (Hey, maybe next it'll be a little boat they can sail around the caverns! That might be fun...) He'll be checking out the statue on deck 18 (cautiously, though, things aren't always what they seem), wandering around the flower-field to see if there's actually anything interesting (hey, graves? Hmmm...), and of course hitting up the Coffee Shop for breakfast and later on The Cool and Kuma-Ko for lunch and dinner.

Feel free to run into him anywhere; winning capture the flag has put him in a pretty good mood!]

[Whoops. In warning him of being arrogant, you've triggered it! Riku glances over to her, raising an eyebrow.]

Thanks for the concern. But I'll be fine.

[He always is.]

Wait, no I got that wrong. That was for Elvaans.

[She scratched her ear.]

Apathy. Yes, that sounds right.

[She sighed.]

I'm sorry, for giving you the wrong one.

[Riku nods. It's kind of like when they escaped Destiny Islands--if he'd had a choice between just leaving the islands behind or leaving during their destruction, maybe. But Marco's right; it's not something they need to worry about right now.

Riku's smart though, he sees exactly where Marco's going with this.]

You mean that watch group that was being set up? No thanks.

[Normally he would just leave it at that, but after having talked with Marco for so long he feels he owes the guy an explanation. If only because he was just talking about doing something and then turning down a chance to do just that.]

Something like that comes up, I'll help out. But I don't want to be part of a group. I'll do what needs to be done instead.

...it's fine.

[Yeah, okay, he's still a little miffed at the arrogance quip. He'll get over it.]

Anyways, that's not important. You know what you've gotta do, right?

*Marco nods*

I can understand that.

I'd call it more of a 'task force' than a 'watch group,' but I guess its all the same.

*'Watch group' sounds too...Big Brother-y. Marco doesn't want it to sound like that, since that's not really what its supposed to be*

[Another nod.]

[A small smile.]

["Watch group" may sound big brother-y, but "task force" sounds like they should be building houses or cleaning up after disasters ~~like the one that took place in the casino the day before~~.]

Anyway, something happens, let me know what's going on.

*They were supposed to be cleaning up after disasters, though. Or putting an end to them when they happened, at least.*

Sure, no problem. You seem pretty capable.

[He'll give her another one of his smirks before climbing back up to his feet.]

I'll keep that in mind.

[And with that, Riku's heading out.]

[Kairi still jumps, just a little. She drops the staff to her side and folds her other arm behind her head, grinning in a half-embarrassed kind of way. She laughs.]

Riku! Heh, that's what Samus said. But it's hard when you're just pretending.

[Samus had been far too strong for either of them to consider sparring. Practising with another beginning like - oh, let's say - Xanth could lead to Kairi hurting someone, and she doesn't want that. And beating up ponybees or giant rats just seems mean.]

She didn't get to show me much before she disappeared, anyway.

[And for once, Kairi sounds totally at peace with the boat vanishings. Time heals all wounds, apparently.]

[He half-smiles. Being captured by an angel boy wasn't exactly on his list of proudest moments, but all things considered, it had been pretty fun.]

Yeah. It was a good game.

You said you played it in your home world?

[It's okay, Zuko, Riku had his ass handed to him by a what is basically a four-year-old with pink hair! Make you feel any better?

Riku gives a short nod at Zuko's question.]

Yeah. A bunch of us on the islands used to play. This was a bit more intense, though.

There's no magic on the islands, for one thing.

[Riku'll give that half-smirk of his, before heading for the stairs.]

You'd be right.

Have fun staring down that statue.

[He might be taking a crack at Marco, but at least this time he's not being mean-spirited about it.

He'll come back in a few days to check on that statue again.]

*Marco chuckles and offers a wave*

See ya, kid.

Yeah--it's easier when you've got someone else to practice with.

[Riku grins, but he's got another question to ask first.]

So you decided to learn how to fight. That something new to the boat?

[Or is it from that year that you've got on him?]

Hmm.

[Zuko takes a moment to think about what capture-the-flag would be like in his home world. He figured it probably would last long before Toph buried the flag underground (or put the jail there) or Zuko burned the flag to cinders.]

Magic, huh. [His mind flashes back to an unfortunate conversation with Kage.] People keep calling what I can do magic. But it's not. It's bending.

[Kairi laughs.]

I noticed.

[Yeah, all those years watching Riku beat Sora weren't completely useless.]

It's new. I didn't remember why I needed to fight until just before I left home. But once I was here - heh - it was pretty obvious.

Then I met Samus and she showed me some things.

[And she works through a couple of guards, slowly.]

Bending, huh? What makes it different from what anyone else can do?

It's a pretty good idea.

[Riku's wearing a little bittersweet half-smile after her words, though. He can't deny that he's glad Kairi's learning how to defend herself, but he doesn't like the thought that it's because he wasn't there to protect her. He watches Kairi's guards, stepping into the position opposite her. As she's moving into the next guard he brings up his sword just as slowly, finding the appropriate attack position and making to give her the attack lightly. He may not be an expert in the quarterstaff, but still--giving her something to defend against may make things a little bit easier.

He gives her a half-shrug, a wry smile. He's made an assumption by stepping in, but he won't continue unless it's cool with Kairi.]

Sure, okay.

[Kairi returns the smile and lets the staff fall back under Riku's strike. It's enough to deflect the attack past her, but also allows her to bring the other end of the staff forward toward Riku's middle. It's slow, with no real force behind it. But they're only practising, and she's pleased she at least remembers the basic idea.]

I'll never beat you, but at least this way I can help.

[She's just not that interested in competing to begin with, and she's years behind. But she will help, even if she's told she can't.]

[Zuko leans forward a little and stretches out his palm, where a little flame blossoms.]

Bending is about controlling your element with how you move your body. I haven't seen anyone else here control their powers in that way. I mean, besides the people from my world.

[Riku twists with the deflection of his sword, so that he's barely clearing the pole as he sweeps the sword back around in a controlled circle. It comes up from below, a movement to deflect the attack--his own "attack" comes after; he draws back and then gives her a simple sideways attack. Much like Kairi's attack, it's all very slow, giving her a chance to think about how to react and counter. He has no idea what all she's learned from Samus and honestly hasn't fought too much against the staff before, so this will be practice for them both.

He chuckles at her words, his grin halfway turning to a smirk.]

Well, at least I know there'll be someone I can trust at my back then. Right?

[Riku's watching that flame pretty intently there, trying to see how it's different than magic. He's also kind of thinking about Hades--now -there's- definitely an example of fire being controlled by the body, but he's pretty sure that's not what he's talking about.

...yeeeeeah, nope, he's not seeing it. Sorry, Zuko.]

Maybe not. But it looks a lot like magic does. You can't really blame people for the confusion.

[He frowns stoutly and let's the flame flicker out.]

Maybe you'd understand with a more proper demonstration. This isn't exactly the best place to be starting fires, though.

Just take my word for it. Bending is different than magic.

[Kairi's about to say something more, but has to focus on what's going on for a moment. She needs to get her staff between Riku's sword and her side. Or does she?

Kairi brings the staff's end down and across, trying to push Riku's sword-point toward the ground. She then pulls the same end up and tucks it under her arm. The opposite end swings down toward Riku's shoulder.

But she's forgotten to move her feet again, and left her ankles unprotected.]
